Castlemaine to Maldon – Return by Steam Train!

Walk Description

Distance: 18 kms

Hoping you will join me in Castlemaine for a cruisey hike to the beautiful township of Maldon, returning to Castlemaine by steam train!

Due to the vagaries of train times, we have an early start from Castlemaine at 8.30 am. We then enjoy a walk through beautiful forest and farmland to Maldon of around 18 kilometres. The hike is fairly flat without any major climbs. We expect to arrive in Maldon at about 2 pm.

You can have a look around a working vintage railway yard, or head into Maldon for a look around the shops. Maldon has a couple of pubs and coffee shops, so you will have time for a bevvy or two of your chosen strength.

Departure from Castlemaine Railway Station at 8.30 am. The intention is to return to Castlemaine on the 3.30 pm steam train; tickets to be purchased in advance from:

Victorian Goldfields Railway

Please make sure you book the correct train from Maldon; cost is $37.00. Look for:

Goldfields Explorer One Way – Departing Maldon, 3.30pm.

Hope to see you there!

Transport

Transport to and from Castlemaine is by car. Unfortunately, no public transport will allow you to get to Castlemaine by 8.30 am unless you arrive the night before. Please indicate your transport requirements and preferences on the booking request form when you book in.

If you don’t have a car, we can’t guarantee to provide you with a lift – this will depend on available drivers and their locations.

Passengers must pay the driver their share of car-pooling costs as described on the Car-pooling page. Please discuss the preferred method of payment with your driver.
