Cup Weekend Pack Carry: Walhalla to Stronachs Camp

Expired

Trip Overview

The first leg of Australia’s iconic Australian Alps Walking Track, this hike will take you from gorgeous Walhalla to Mt St Gwinear, Mt Erica and Stronach’s Camp. The beauty of this hike is that it is either a two day or three day event (your choice . . . subject to car arrangements, of course) and is therefore a suitable introduction to pack carries.

Camping

It’s a pack carry – so bring your own!

We intend to camp at Bluff Hut, where there is ‘apparently’ a water supply. Bring your preferred method of water treatment.

Itinerary and Walk Descriptions

Saturday: Arrive at Walhalla

We will actually meet near Mount Baw Baw early in the day. This is a ‘through’ hike, so we need to invest some time to park some cars at Stronachs Camp for the three day hike and at Mount Erica for the two day hike. We then drive to Walhalla for coffee and cake, before setting off to O’Shea’s Mill Site where we will camp. About 15 km, expect to arrive there at around 5 pm. Water should be plentiful.

Sunday

We continue to Mt Erica Car Park, with a side trip to Mt St Gwinear on offer. We camp at the beautifully named Rock Shelter.  About 15 km.

Monday

We finish our hike today at Stronachs Camp. We jump in the cars and return to Walhalla (as our drivers will need to pick up their cars).

Expect about 15 km . . . trip is a total of 46.3 km.

Transport

Transport to and from the walk location is by car. If you don’t have a car, we can’t guarantee to provide you with a lift – this will depend on available drivers and their locations. Drivers can choose whether they wish to take passengers or not.

Passengers must pay the driver their share of car-pooling costs as described on the Car-pooling page. Please discuss the preferred method of payment with your driver. This will also extend to the car shuffle.
