Walking Since 1939

Mt Feathertop via The Razorback Pack Carry

Closed

Itinerary and Walk Descriptions

Distance:  Day One: 14km; Day Two: 9km

YHA Bushwalking will head out across The Razorback this Autumn for a unique trip to Mt Feathertop regarded as one of the best peaks in the Australian Alps. This is one of Victoria’s iconic walks and along the way you will be rewarded with sweeping scenic views as far as the eye can see.

The trip is unique as we will utilise a local tour operator that will take us to the walk start and collect us at the end of our weekend journey. This will save valuable time in avoiding a car shuffle and enable vehicles to be left in a safe location overnight in Bright.

Friday 16th April:   Travel to Beechworth for first night’s stay in accommodation.

Due to the distance from Melbourne you will need to be able to travel on the Friday to historic Beechworth staying in the Old Priory for our overnight accommodation with optional dinner. As there is plenty to see and do in Beechworth a good idea would be to take the day off for those that can.

Saturday 17th April:  Day One:

Early drive from Beechworth for our transfer from Bright to walk start. Then walk the Razorback to Federation Hut and ascent of Mt Feathertop 14km

Sunday 18th April: Day Two:

Federation Hut to Harrietville via Bungalow Spur Trail 9km. Then transfer back to Bright for our drive home.

As the walk is in an exposed alpine area above the tree line you will need to have good quality clothing and equipment that will enable you to handle sudden changes in the weather.

The walk is for regular walkers with good fitness as there are plenty of big hills and not suitable for beginners or people who have not walked with the club before.
