Grampians Accommodated Trip

Closed

Trip Overview

Hoping you will join for a relaxing weekend in the lovely Grampians in winter. This trip will take you to some of the lesser known areas of Gariwerd (as they are also known), with a gorgeous dinner at a beautiful Indian restaurant in lovely Halls Gap. Be aware that it may be cold – bring your best winter gear!

There is an option to stay for the Monday walk, or you can return home on Sunday afternoon if you wish.

Accommodation

This trip is a little different to most YHA Bushwalking trips, in that you actually manage your own accommodation. You can choose to stay at the YHA Eco-Hostel in Halls Gap, or one of the nearby motels. You can even stay in a tent if you prefer.

Itinerary and Walk Descriptions

Friday: Arrive in Halls Gap. Car is the best way to arrive.

Saturday: Barigar Walk

A one way hike (therefore requiring a car shuffle), this medium-hard hike takes us through the Stapylton Amphitheatre, with the maginificant orange wave of Taipan Wall. With some panoramic ridgeline hiking, seasonal creeks and a hidden waterfall, it is sure to be unforgettable.

Sunday: Grampians Rail Trail

An easy 11 kilometre hike along an old, long forgotten railway line that was closed in the 1940s or so.

Optional extra: Devils Garden Circuit

An easy 5.5 kilometre hike in the Devils Garden State Forest, just outside of Grampians.

Monday: Lake Wartook Looking, 11.5 kilometres, one way hike, again requiring a car shuffle.  Then we depart for the trip home.

Transport

Transport to and from the walk location is best by car. Public transport options do exist – please make your own enquiries.

If you don’t have a car, we can’t guarantee to provide you with a lift – this will depend on available drivers and their locations. We’ll try.

Passengers must pay the driver their share of car-pooling costs as described on the Car-pooling page. Please discuss the preferred method of payment with your driver.
