Lal Lal Bungal Circuit

Expired

Walk Description

Distance: 23 km

The Lal Lal Bungal Circuit hike explores the many tracks of the Lal Lal Bungal Historic Area. Most of these tracks were created by the Lal Lal Iron Mining Company (formed in 1874) when it set up an iron ore quarry and smelting works. The mine reached its peak in 1884 when 1,600 tons of ore were smelted and 800 tons of pig iron were produced.

Commencing at the Blast Furnace picnic area near Ironmine road this circuit takes you north west into the Lal Lal State Forest with views over the Lal Lal Reservoir. After leaving the reservoir you can then explore the lower reaches of the state forest including the summits of Mount Doran (545m) and Champion Hill (520m) before returning to the picnic area.

Some more information about the area is available here: https://www.moorabool.vic.gov.au/Services-and-support/House-property-and-pets/Directory/Lal-Lal-Bungal-Historic-AreaState-Forest

Exact start point will be emailed to participants just before the event. I have not explored the area, but look forward to looking around and seeing what we can discover here.

If you have any questions, please use the enquiry button below and I will be in touch!

Transport

Transport to and from the walk location is by car. Please indicate your transport requirements and preferences on the booking request form when you book in.

If you don’t have a car, we can’t guarantee to provide you with a lift – this will depend on available drivers and their locations.

Drivers can choose whether they wish to take passengers or not.

I’ll send out information to people seeking a ride around 5 days before the walk start date to assist in car pooling options for participants. If you offer to take passengers on the walk application, I take this as permission to share your email for the people seeking a ride either in your area or potentially on your driving path to the walk.

Passengers must pay the driver their share of car-pooling costs as described on the Car-pooling page. Please discuss the preferred method of payment with your driver.
