Walk Description

This is not a standard Sunday YHA walk, as the route and distance will be decided on the day by the participants. Due to the nature of the event, much of the walk will be off track.

This is a chance to improve your navigation skills in the bush using a map and compass, and learn some of the basics of rogaining.

For more information on Rogaining, please see

https://vra.rogaine.asn.au/

We will be using the permanent rogaine course near Taradale, to cover the practical applications of the following topics:

  • What the symbols mean on a map
  • How to work out where you are on the map.
  • How to use a map and compass to navigate
  • Basic Rogaining strategy.

All walkers are welcome, but please note that much of the walking will be cross- country and off track.

To get the best out of the day, it is recommended to bring an orienteering type compass, and a print out a paper copy of the map (A3, colour if possible), available here:
