Sailors Falls Circuit

Walk Description

Distance: 17.2km, 470m elevation

The Daylesford to Sailors Falls via Muskvale is a 17.2 km loop walk through the heart of the Hepburn Regional Park, linking the historic township of Daylesford with the picturesque Sailors Falls. The follows a diverse mix of bush tracks, quiet country roads and forest trails.

The walk showcases the best of the region’s natural beauty, winding through native eucalypt forest, fern-lined gullies and open woodland before reaching Sailors Falls, one of the few permanent waterfalls in the area. Along the way, you will pass creeks, historic bridges and tranquil bushland, with opportunities to spot native birdlife and wildlife. The route also visits the famous mineral springs, where naturally carbonated groundwater has attracted visitors to the area for more than 150 years.

The landscape surrounding Sailors Falls and Daylesford was transformed during the Victorian Gold Rush of the 1850s. Gold discoveries along Sailors Creek drew thousands of prospectors to the district, helping establish the nearby settlements of Daylesford and Hepburn Springs. The creek and falls are believed to have taken their name from the many sailors who abandoned ships in Melbourne to seek their fortunes on the goldfields.

Leaders are Jenna and Sharnee.
