Cathedral Ranges: Southern Circuit – Cooks Mill – Sugarloaf Saddle – Canyon Route to Sugarloaf – Farmyard – Jawbone track

Distance: 12 km, around 550 m elevation gain/descent

Walk Description

A classic adventure, the Cathedral range ascends dramatically from surrounding farmland out past Healesville.  This walk ascends gradually through forest, then steeply onto a razorback with great views.  This is a challenging walk, with confidence in scrambling and a head for heights essential.  Though there are no greatly exposed sections or ropes needed, experience with rough terrain is mandatory.  This walk will be cancelled if the forecast is poor.  We will likely be finished mid-afternoon.

Booking is  required for this walk.   The Leader will confirm your acceptance on the walk, or not, via email.  The leader will give some information to help you organise your own carpooling, and provide details of where and when to meet.

What to bring:

• Day pack
• Sufficient water (2 litres, more on hot summer days)
• Lunch and snacks
• Hat, sun screen
• Suitable outdoor clothing (no jeans/sneakers!)
• Rainwear & warm jacket
• Proper walking shoes/boots

Refer to our Gear Checklist page for more details.   If you are not properly equipped, the walk leader can decide not to let you participate on this walk.

Booking Fee:

Please pay the leader CASH at the start of the walk, NO credit cards.

Passengers must pay the driver their share of car-pooling costs as described on the

Car-pooling page. Please bring cash for this purpose.

Brilliant. Thanks Steve, catch you tomorrow morning then.

Steve Weeks:

I will be at Ringwood RSL carpark at 7:15, silver Subaru wagon with bike racks on top. How many are on the walk? There's not many replies for car-pooling.

Hi Richard and Steve, my train arrives at Ringwood station at 7:18. Would either of you be able to wait until then?

Richard Lawrence:

Hi Am coming from Brunswick West. Happy to meet at Ringwood station at around 7.15 am or alternatively could get a lift with Craig if coming through from Sunbury. Cheers Richard

Steve Weeks:

I can take 3 passengers. I will be leaving Boronia at 7 - 7:15am or can pickup from Ringwood Station. Steve
