Walking Since 1939

Blue Mountain (Wombat State Forest)

Closed

Distance: 18km   (~6 hours including breaks)

Walk Description

Starting from Blackwood, this bushwalk takes a route through the Wombat State forest to Trentham, including an unmarked trail from the gold-mining era along Yankee Creek and some views from Blue Mountain, a minor high point of the area.   Most of the walk is on-track apart from the climb up Blue Mountain.   The Yankee Creek section has fallen logs that will require scrambling over or around.    Walk finish should be mid-afternoon, allowing time to browse Trentham’s shops and galleries or have some afternoon tea before returning to Melbourne.

Booking is  required for this walk.   The leader will organise car-pooling and provide details of where and when to meet.

What to bring:

• Day pack
• Sufficient water (1-2 litres, none is available during the walk)
• Lunch and snacks
• Suitable outdoor clothing (no jeans/sneakers!)
• Rainwear, warm jacket, beanie (this area is usually a few degrees cooler than Melbourne, particularly in winter)
• Proper walking shoes/boots

Refer to our Gear Checklist page for more details.   If you are not properly equipped, the walk leader can decide not to let you participate on this walk.
