Walk Description

Grade and Terrain: Medium. This bushwalk is only suitable for bushwalkers who can walk at 4 km/hour and climb hills at 300 m/hour. The walk has steep hill climbs off tracks and descents on gravel and rocky uneven tracks. The track through the lower part of the gorge requires you to use fixed plastic covered steel wires to get around a near vertical rock face which drops off into the Werribee River. The rocks can be very slippery when wet. To walk back to the Quarry Picnic Area we follow Kellys Creek.

Description of the walk: This energetic short walk explores the depths of Werribee Gorge, the deepest and most famous of Melbourne’s western gorges. Walkers will be surprised at the geological features, rugged terrain and the many spectacular views.

Distance: 10 km to 12 km   Time: 4 hours to 5 hours
