Traralgon Accommodated Trip: Grand Final Long Weekend

Upcoming

Trip Overview

Taking advantage of the Grand Final long weekend, we will stay in Traralgon and do two day hikes in the beautiful Tarra Bulga National Park in South Gippsland, followed by a half-day hike north of Traralgon before we head home.

Accommodation

We are staying in cabins at the Big 4 Traralgon Park Lane Holiday Park.

Three people per cabin. Each cabin includes a kitchen, living area, bathroom and two bedrooms (double bed in the first and two single bunk beds in the second).

Itinerary and Walk Descriptions

Thursday September 25

Arrive at Traralgon and settle in to our accommodation.

Friday September 26 – Grand Final Public Holiday

Tarra Valley Circuit – 22.5 km M/H 7.5 hours

Come and experience the magical Tarra Bulga National Park with this harder hike. We will see some magnificent Mountain Ash Trees, lush gullies of Tree Ferns and Myrtle Beeches. This area is one of the best examples of cool temperate rainforest in Victoria. This walk is a harder loop walk that will take in some of the best scenery in the park, though those frightened of leeches should come prepared!

Saturday September 27 – Grand Final Day

Mount Tassie Loop – 16.4 km M 5 hours

This is another excellent hike in the Tarra Bulga National Park. We will get to take in some magnificent views from the top of Mount Tassie and check out the Corrigan Suspension Bridge. The aim isn’t to finish too late for this one, so some walkers can return and watch the football, or at least most of it.

Sunday September 28

Wirilda Track Loop via Pipeline Track E/M 3 hours

This is a scenic loop along and around the Tyers River, north of Traralgon. Expect some spectacular views of the river gorge. This area is supposedly one of the best areas in all of Gippsland for hiking and spring is probably the best season to do it, with plenty of wildflowers making this area a favourite for naturalists.

After our hike, we depart for the trip home.
