Walk Description

One of Victoria’s icon walks, the 37km Falls-Hotham Alpine Crossing is a 3 day / 2 nights walk through the Alpine National Park, linking the resort villages of Falls Creek and Mt Hotham.
Winding its way along alpine ridges through snow gum woodlands and snow grass plains, over rocky summits and past historic huts, this 3 day hike offers an achievable and rewarding hiking challenge with spectacular views every step of the way.

Day One: Mt Loch to Dibbins Hut 9km

Day Two: Dibbins Hut to Cope Hut 14km

Day Three: Cope Hut to Heathy Spur

Walk Grade: Medium – Walk is not suitable for beginners to pack carrying or who have not walked with the club before.

Transport has been organised with a local tour operator to and from Bright to the start and end of walk for a total cost of $500 divided by total attendees. This will need to be paid one month in advance of the trip plus the trip fee. Parking at the tour operators premises has been arranged for all attendees’ vehicles.

This is an Alpine Walk so all walkers need to have good clothing and equipment for all weather extremes to be able to attend this trip.

Booking is  required for this walk.  The Leader will confirm your acceptance onto the walk via an email.  A few days before the walk, the leader will organise car-pooling and provide details of where and when to meet.

It is expected that anyone undertaking an overnight walk has at least the experience and equipment necessary to comfortably complete a “medium” graded day walk.   If you are new to overnight camping, please refer to our Gear Checklist page or discuss with the leader.   Some equipment (eg tents, stoves) can be borrowed or shared provided you advise the leader of this when booking.  For harder-graded walks, the leader has the right not to accept bookings from anyone they consider is not sufficiently fit or experienced to undertake it, so please provide as much relevant information as you can when booking.

Costs:
$50 approximate transfer fee to the start and end point of the walk,  plus optional accommodation of night before trip – To be organised with leader

PLUS $10 booking fee for non-members (no booking fee for members).

Passengers must pay the driver their share of car-pooling costs as described on the Car-pooling page. Please bring cash for this purpose.
