A skier, hiker and lifelong lover of Australia’s High Country, Anthony Sharwood’s brain was pretty much fried at the end of 2019. The Australian Alps Walking Track was a chance to escape, to cleanse, to reset. From Snow to Ash documents that trek. But it’s more than a personal journey. This is a book about our precious High Country and the perils it faces, with more than 20 interviewees lending their expertise and local knowledge to bring this unique part of Australia to life.

 

In From Snow to Ash, you see and feel the track through Ant’s eyes, but you understand it through expert eyes.
As our virtual February club night speaker, Anthony will talk through some of his favourite sections, but also the issues covered in the book, and how he decided to turn what might have been (yet another) self-indulgent hiking book into something more meaningful, into a book about the mountains.

 

Anthony is a Walkley Award-winning journalist specialising in sports, the outdoors, weather and climate, who has spent nearly 20 years as a writer and editor on leading Australian magazines, newspapers and news websites. He has also presented television shows, radio programs and a podcast.  He lives with his wife, two teenagers and Pepper the naughty whippet in a Sydney suburb nobody has ever heard of.
