Glenlyon – Loddon Falls circuit

Upcoming

Walk Description

Distance: 15 km

This walk begins at Glenlyon, a small town near Daylesford on the northern edge of Wombat State forest.  After following a section of the Loddon River (barely a creek at this stage) through the township, a few kilometres downstream it cascades into a small but scenic gorge before eventually meandering through farmland.   After exploring the Loddon Falls reserve, we’ll follow the gorge/river for a few more kilometres before returning to Glenlyon along quiet back-roads.   They’ll also be a visit to Glenlyon mineral spring – recommended if you want to top up your magnesium levels – so bring spare containers.

While most of the walk is on fairly easy tracks or back-roads, care needs to be taken on the short but rocky track descending below the falls.   The section following the gorge and river downstream of the falls is off-track for 4-5km before rejoining a road.   There will probably be a few river crossings, normally easy rock-hops if the water level is low.   If the river is high due to recent rain there are alternatives such as bridges or bypasses that enable any crossings to be avoided.
