Trip Overview

A 4 night accommodated trip during the Cup Weekend staying at the Peaks Lodge near Halls Gap as twin and triple share.

There will be 3 full day walks and one 1/2 day walk: Wonderland; Mt Stapleton + Mt Zero; Mt Rosea; & Mt Abrupt.

Accommodation

Accommodation is provided by the Peaks Lodge.It is located 3km south of Halls Gap along the main road.

The Lodge consists of  9 bedrooms and a common lounge, kitchen and amenities. Six of the twin-share rooms and one larger triple room have been booked for the 4 nights (commencing on the Friday). All rooms have an ensuite/attached bathroom.

Member cost is $245 for the twin share and $205 for the triple share (female only). ($10 extra for non-members.)

Itinerary and Walk Descriptions

Day 1: Wonderland circuit (approx 16km, 500m ascent, 6h)
Starting from the accommodation, head towards Halls Gap & follow the Wonderland track via the Venus Baths, Bridal Veil Falls & the Grand Canyon to the Pinnacle. Continue past Sundial Peak towards Lake Bellfield and then back to the accommodation. [A shorter option is to start from and return to Halls Gap via the Pinnacle – approx 10km.]

Day 2: Mt. Stapleton circuit (approx. 11km + 3km, 5h)
A partial circuit walk in the northern part of the Grampians to Mt. Stapleton starting from the campground the Mt Stapleton/Mt Zero car park. Mt Stapleton is an interesting rock formation with views over the surrounding countryside. Some rock scrambling is required. A possible side trip to Mt. Zero afterwards if people still have energy.

[This area is currently closed due to bushfires. Briggs Bluff is a possible substitution (11km, 5h).]

Day 3: Mt. Rosea circuit (10km, 500m ascent, 4-5h)
A circuit walk via Mt Rosea with periodic views along the way and at the top.

Day 4: Mt. Abrupt (6.5km, 450m ascent, 2.5h)
This shorter walks climbs steeply towards the top of Mt Abrupt with views over the southern section of the Grampians (Serra range to the north and Dunkeld to the south).

 

Transport

Transport to and from the walk location is by car. Please indicate your transport requirements and preferences on the booking request form when you book in.

If you don’t have a car, we can’t guarantee to provide you with a lift – this will depend on available drivers and their locations.

Passengers must pay the driver their share of car-pooling costs as described on the Car-pooling page. Please discuss the preferred method of payment with your driver.

 

Booking

Booking is required for this walk. Please indicate what similar walks you have done recently (i.e. in the past few months) to give the leader confidence that you are capable of doing this one. Refer to Walking Grades which, in conjunction with the walk description, will help you assess whether you have the required walking fitness and experience to do this walk.

The Leader will confirm your acceptance on the walk, or not, via email.  The leader will provide details of where and when to meet.

Trip Price:
Members:  $245 (twin share), $205 (triple share)
Non-members: $255 (twin share), $215 (triple share)

Payment:
Members and non-members are required to pre-pay the trip price for this event.
You can pay by Paypal. If you are not a Paypal member, you can use Paypal to pay by credit or debit card.

Cancellation:
If you need to cancel, please advise the leader as soon as possible, so that someone else has the opportunity.
We will only be able to provide a refund (less a $5 Paypal fee) if we can find a replacement for you.

What to Bring

• All the equipment, clothing, food and water you will need for the walks and overnight stays (refer Trip details above).

• To help manage the Covid risk, the following may be useful: Hand Sanitiser, Face Mask(s), RAT test(s).

Refer to our Gear Checklist page for more details, or discuss with the leader.  If you are not properly equipped, the walk leader can decide not to let you participate on this walk.

 

Safety and Ambulance Insurance

We strongly recommend that you have Ambulance cover. If conditions are hazardous, the walk may be cancelled. If any doubts at all, check your emails the night before and the morning of the event. For more details refer to: Joining a walk and your safety
