Torquay Accommodated Trip: King’s Birthday Weekend
Expired
Trip Overview
A 3 night accommodated trip staying in self-contained rental houses in the Torquay area. The houses are self contained – there are supermarkets in Torquay but also numerous other meal options.
There will be 2 full day & 1 1/2 day walks walking sections of the surf coast covering Torquay, Anglesea, Bells Beach, etc.
Sunday night dinner will be an optional group pub meal or similar. (Cost not included.)
Accommodation
Two rental houses have been booked for the 3 nights (from Friday 7th June). Room configurations vary but will comprise a mix of doubles, singles, and bunks beds. A maximum of 2 people will be allocated to each room. Maximum occupancy is around 13 total for the 2 houses (subject to the number of couples).
Prospective attendees have the option to book their own accommodation once these places are fully allocated.
Itinerary and Walk Descriptions
The following are the planned walks for this trip. However, these may change for various reasons (closures, weather, group preferences, etc).
Day 1: Jan Juc (south side)->Anglesea. This walk starts from the south side of Jan Juc (near Torquay) and follows the coast to Bell’s Beach, Pt. Addis and Anglesea. Highlights include several beaches and the sandstone cliffs. The section to Pt. Addis is further inland through coastal scrub and open woodland. Total distance is 16.5km (car shuffle required).
Day 2: Anglesea->Fairhaven. The first short section in Anglesea is a river walk followed by a small ascent to the bluff near Pt. Roadknight with panoramic views, beach walking to Urquhart, coastal scrublands, Split Pt. lighthouse, Painkalac creek, & finishing in Fairhaven. Total distance is 16.5km (car shuffle required).
Day 3: Torquay<->Breama (11.5km return along the shoreline and coastal reserve). An alternative is Torquay<->Jan Juc (9km return).
