Walking Since 1939

Williamstown to Altona

Expired

Walk Description

Distance: 18km return

The walk runs along the Foreshore Trail, part of the Hobsons Bay Coastal Trail which we join at Williamstown Beach next to the KIOSK/Public Toilet Block. This walk showcases the best part of the west: wetlands, birdwatching, bay views and glimpses of gold rush architecture and marine ecology. The trail crosses some roads along the way with a couple of side tracks to the waters edge, incorporating Jawbone Marine Sanctuary & Altona Coastal Reserve. There is at least one toilet stop along the route as well as the start and finish. The idea is to have lunch at Altona after reaching the pier.
Those who wish to complete the walk only one-way may catch public transport from Altona Station (however please note that trains running via Williamstown are not as frequent as those that run via Newport due to current rail works).

Transport

Make your own way to the walk location by car or public transport (your choice).
